3. Class C- When a fire involves electrical equipment that is live, this type of extinguisher should be used.
4. Class D- This type of extinguisher is used when handling combustible metals. These different metals can include sodium, magnesium, and titanium.
5. Class K- Commercial kitchens have this type of extinguisher available because it is designed for cooking fires. This includes fires involving grease, fat, and oil.

 

Maintenance of Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers are required to undergo a visual inspection once every month to ensure proper working order. During these inspections, individuals should determine a number of things:

 

1. The fire extinguishers are not hidden or blocked by clutter
2. All mountings of fire extinguishers are up to NFPA standards
3. Nozzles are not blocked
4. The gauge of pressure is in appropriate spot
5. Fire extinguishers are kept in designated areas
6. Seals and pin have not been tampered with
