Fireline was recently honored by the Baltimore Business Journal for their Family-Owned Business Awards 2023. According to the journal, these awards are presented to “enterprises that have endured through multiple generations, have continued to change with the times and that contribute to the broader community through philanthropy, community service and more.” Fireline is immensely proud to be included as honorees and recognized as a family-owned business that has served its community faithfully. We celebrated our 75th Anniversary in 2022, and we are excited to continue to serve our friends and neighbors in the Baltimore area for many years to come!
The History of the Business
The Baltimore Business Journal article briefly talks about the humble beginnings of Fireline. In 1947, John Waters Sr. opened a small fire extinguisher shop. Eventually, his son Stephen Waters took over for him and ran the business until 2009. Anna Gavin, his daughter, has been the president of Fireline since 2010 after the passing of her father. Today, that small shop is now a sprawling office campus that was renovated last year, bringing Fireline’s entire team together under one roof.

However, she entered the company as its President under more uncertain circumstances. Life has a way of throwing us curveballs, and Anna Gavin has shown that you can dodge it or you can catch it. She caught it.
Amazing Feats
With Anna Gavin at the helm, Fireline has grown, and they have been a pioneer in the fire safety industry for years. Fireline was the first company in Maryland to sell ABC dry chemical fire extinguishers. Under Anna’s leadership, Fireline has grown from 140 employees to over 240 in 2023. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new campus last year, Gavin said, “Fireline is a family business not just because of the Waters family, but because of our employees.”
